ChiliTech E-Mail Support

How do I get my ChiliTech E-mail?

There are two ways you can check your ChiliTech E-mail. You can check via our Web-Mail option or by setting up a client based e-mail program.

You can use your Internet web browser to view your account via Web-Mail. Web-Mail will allow you to check your e-mail from any Internet connected computer. With web-mail you will read and compose your e-mail in your Internet browser and all your messages will be stored online. Each ChiliTech e-mail account has a maximum of 500 e-mails or 10MB for online storage of e-mail.

You can also configure a client based e-mail program, such as Outlook Express. With this type of mail, you will read and compose messages in your client program, all messages received will be downloaded and stored on your computer. Check here for help configuring your client e-mail program.

Why am I getting SPAM?

We never sell your information. Spammers use email address harvesting robots to scour webpages. So if you have posted on a newsgroup, bulletin board, or signed a guest book, they could have retrieved your information this way. They also scour domain name registration (WHOIS) records, harvesting the email addresses of administrative, technical and billing contacts for domains. They also often just guess at email addresses.

Once they have your email address, they'll most likely put your address along with thousands of others, in the "Bcc" field of a mail where you cannot see them when you are looking at the email in your inbox. They also usually use a fake "To" and "From" address in those fields. If the fake address they use for that purpose happens to belong to someone, it usually results in a denial of service attack against the innocent person listed there. Tons of complaints and bounced mails begin flooding in to him or her.

Spammers are hard to stop. If you filter one mail relay where it is coming from, they just pick up and move to another. If you filter specific key words in their spams, they change them. If you are too aggressive trying to keep out spam, you may end up disabling yourself from receiving legitimate mail. This problem not only affects you, but us and everyone else using the Internet.

What Can I Do to Stop SPAM?

1. Avoid posting your real email address on websites, newsgroups, etc. If you do post publicly and want people to be able to contact you by email, you can post your email as usernameABC@chilitech.com and then include a note in your post to "take out the ABC to email me."

2. Be careful about who you give your email address to and what you signup for with your email address. Giving your email address to the wrong website or company could result in it being sold in bulk to spammers.

3. Set up an e-mail filter rule to delete the messages before they are downloaded to your e-mail client.

Why are my E-mail messages being labeled as SPAM?

We have implemented a policy to block SPAM (also known as unsolicited commercial e-mail). Each incoming e-mail is scanned for signs that it may be SPAM. If it is determined that it's likely to be spam, it is altered to clearly reflect this, so that you can decide whether to delete or keep it.

If you are receiving e-mail messages being labeled as SPAM that aren't SPAM or wish to not have any of your mail labeled, please forward that message to spam@chilitech.net and we can correct this issue.

Why do I get a "Failed Delivery" message?

When you get mail from a "MAILER-DAEMON" or a "Mail Delivery Subsystem" with a subject similar to "Failed Delivery," this means that a message which you sent was undeliverable and has been "bounced" back to you. These messages are produced automatically and usually include a reason for the delivery failure.
Bounced messages normally consist of two parts. The first contains the reason for the bounce; the second contains your original message.

The most common reason for a failed delivery is the email address you entered isn't valid. If the Mailer Daemon says that the account doesn't exist, double-check the spelling of the address you entered. A single misplaced letter can be enough to cause a failed delivery. If the message continues to be bounced back to you, verify that the account hasn't been closed or moved.

If there's a different reason given and you would like us to investigate it, just let us know. If you forward us the returned e-mail, it will be very helpful as we attempt to determine why your message bounced.

Why do I get Duplicate E-mails in my Outlook Express?

Sometimes it happens that OE downloads the same messages each time you send and receive. This is caused by a damaged "Pop3uidl.dbx" file. This file keeps track of which messages on the server have already been downloaded and should therefore be skipped on subsequent downloads. To fix the problem, simply delete the "Pop3uidl.dbx" file. The next time you check for mail, all the messages on the server will be downloaded again, but a new "Pop3uidl.dbx" will be created that should work properly on subsequent mail checks.

How to Delete Large Attachments Using Web Mail

If someone has sent you an email message with a large attachment, you may have difficulty downloading that message (and attachment) with your regular email program. If so, use ChiliTech Web Mail to download the attachment. Then delete the email message with the attachment from the server. After the attachment is removed from the ChiliTech mail server, your email program should work correctly again.

How do I configure UseNet NewsGroups?

Usenet Newsgroups is a collection of online forums broken into subjects on every conceivable interest. Once configured into a newsgroup reader, participants in a newsgroup conduct discussions by posting messages for others to read, and responding to the messages posted by others. For help configuring your e-mail client or Newsgroup Reader program check here.
